Aluminum Roll Classification

Series 1000
Typical Series 1000 aluminum plate is also known as pure aluminum plate. Series 1000 is among all series that contain the largest amount of aluminum with its purity reaching above 99.00%. Because it does not contain other technical elements, the production process for Series 1000 is relatively simple along with relatively inexpensive price. Currently, it is the most commonly used series in conventional industries. Most of the circulations in the market are Series 1050 and Series 1060. For aluminum plates in Series 1000, the minimum aluminum content of this series is designated by the last two Arabic numerals. For example, the last two Arabic numerals in Series 1050 are 50, according to the international nomenclature for designations, products won’t qualify until the aluminum content must reach above 99.5%.

Series 2000
Typical 2A16 (LY16) 2A06 (LY6) Series 2000 aluminum plate is characterized by higher hardness with copper being the highest content, about 3-5%. Series 2000 aluminum plate is among aviation aluminum products, and seldom used in the conventional industries.

Series 3000
Typical 3003 3003 3A21 is principal. Manganese is the main component of Series 3000 aluminum plate with content between 1.0-1.5. Series 3000 is the series with better antirust function. Conventional applications are found in air conditioning, refrigerators, vehicle bottom and other humid environment. The price is higher than Series 1000. Series 3000 is a more commonly used alloy series.

Series 4000
Typical 4A01 Series 4000 aluminum plate is the series with higher silicon content with silicon content usually between 4.5-6.0%. The series is for building materials, mechanical parts, forging materials and welding materials; low melting point, good corrosion resistance with heat-resisting and wear-resisting characteristics.

Series 5000
Type of 5052.5005.5083.5A05 series. Series 5000 aluminum plate is among more commonly used series of aluminum alloy with magnesium being the main element and its content between 3-5%. The series can also be called aluminum-magnesium alloy. The main features of the series are low density, high tensile strength and high extensibility. Given the same area, the weight of aluminum-magnesium alloy is lower than that of other series. Therefore, it is commonly used in aviation, such as aircraft fuel tank. It is also relatively widely used in conventional industries. Processing technique is continuous casting and continuous rolling, which belongs to hot-rolled aluminum plate series. Therefore, it can undergo deep processing of oxidation.

Series 6000
Typical 6061 mainly contains two elements of magnesium and silicon, so 6061 combines the advantages of Series 4000 and Series 5000. 6061 is an aluminum forging product by cold treatment, suitable for the applications demanding high corrosion resistance and high oxidation. Good workability, excellent joint characteristics, easy to coat, fine machinability. It can be used for low-pressure weapons and aircraft joints.

Series 7000
Typical 7075 mainly contains zinc. It also belongs to the aviation series, an aluminum-magnesium-zinc-copper alloy, a heat-treatable alloy, a super-hard aluminum alloy with fine wear-resistance. 7075 aluminum plate undergoes the stress relief, will not be deformed or warping after machining. All extra large and thick 7075 aluminum plates go through ultrasonic detection ensuring there is no trachoma or impurities. 7075 aluminum plate has high thermal conductivity, can shorten the molding time to improve productivity. The main feature is its great hardness. 7075 is an aluminum alloy with high hardness and high strength, commonly used in the manufacture of aircraft structure. Such structure requires high stress structural parts and mold manufacturing with high strength and high corrosion resistance.

Series 8000
Also used in the radiator. The majority of applications are for aluminum foil. Less commonly used.

Series 9000
Reserved series. With such advanced science and technology, in order to cope with the advent of aluminum alloy with other alloying elements, the International Association of Aluminum Plate and Bar has especially designated Series 9000 as a reserved series, waiting for another new variety to appear to fill the gap of Series 9000.
